The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

"It is for school to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated  school per FSM pupil is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the indvidual pupils within their responsibility."  Source - DfE website

Funding for 2023 to 2024

​

In the 2023 to 2024 financial year, primary schools will receive £1,455 for each child registered as eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last 6 years:

Schools also receive £2,530 for each pupil who:

​

• has been looked after for 1 day or more

• has been adopted from care
   

has left care under:
 

• a special guardianship order

• a residence order

• a child arrangement order

All children who are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 in a state-funded school are offered a free healthy school lunch.  Children in other school years are also offered a free school lunch if their parent is receiving any of the welfare benefits below:
 

• Income Support

• Income-based Jobseekers Allowance

• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

• Support from NASS (National Asylum Support Service) under part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

• the guarantee element of State Pension Credit

• Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual income of no more than £17,005

• Working Tax Credit run-on

• Universal Credit.
   

It is therefore important to sign up for free school meals, even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, so that your child’s school receives as much funding as possible.
