Spirituality

1. Windows (Be Curious)

Windows allow us to see beyond ourselves, offering glimpses of new perspectives, possibilities, and truths.

  • Curiosity invites us to look through the windows of life, observing the world and the unknown with wonder and openness.

  • Spiritually, windows encourage exploration and a sense of awe as we seek to understand what lies beyond the immediate. They remind us that there's always something larger to discover.

Action: Ask questions like, What am I seeing through this window? How can I let this view inspire my growth or deepen my understanding?

2. Doors (Be Present)

Doors are thresholds, representing moments of transition and opportunities to step fully into new experiences.

  • Presence is required to stand at the door, open it, and walk through, leaving distractions or fears behind.

  • Spiritually, doors symbolize choice and transformation. To be present is to recognize that every moment holds the potential to enter a new reality or to embrace change.

Action: Reflect on the doors in your life: Am I pausing at the threshold? Am I choosing to step through with awareness and courage?

3. Mirrors (Reimagine)

Mirrors reflect our inner world, showing us who we are and inviting us to see ourselves clearly.

  • Reimagination happens when we look into the mirror with compassion and creativity, imagining new ways to grow, heal, or connect with our higher selves.

  • Spiritually, mirrors challenge us to confront our truths and reimagine our place in the world.

Action: Use mirrors to ask: Who am I in this moment? What can I transform within myself to align more fully with my purpose or divine connection?

Bringing It Together

  • Look through the window with curiosity to discover what lies beyond.

  • Stand at the door with presence to embrace opportunities and transitions.

  • Gaze into the mirror to reimagine yourself with clarity and possibility.

Spiritual Development in St Michael’s CEP School

Spiritual development at primary age involves fostering a child's understanding of values, morals, and their sense of wonder, purpose, and connection to the world.

It helps children build empathy, kindness, and resilience, while also encouraging a sense of belonging and self-identity. This stage is crucial for developing emotional intelligence, promoting positive social behaviors, and providing a foundation for lifelong well-being.

Spiritual growth at this age can guide children through challenges, enhance their relationships, and foster a deeper appreciation for life, diversity, and community.

At St Michael’s, we have adopted the Windows, doors and mirrors approach to spiritual development.By using ‘Windows, Doors and Mirrors’, we are enabling pupils to look:

● Outwards – to the world we see and experience

● Onwards – in active response

● Inwards – for personal reflection.

The phrase "Be curious , be present , reimagine " aligns well with the spiritual metaphors of windows, doors, and mirrors, as each object represents a distinct way of engaging with self, others, and the divine. Here's how they connect:
